THE streets where careless parking is blocking the path of gritters have been named.
Lancashire highways manager Ridwan Musa is urging people to leave enough room for the vehicles to get past.
Highways teams have recently put up temporary warning signs on lampposts in areas where it is most common.
Areas where parking is often a problem include: Waverley Road, Southwood Drive, and Sherbourne Road in Baxenden; Rothwell Avenue, Belfield Road, Lynton Road,Fife Street, and Moorhouse Avenue in Accrington; Roegreave Road, Aspen Lane, and Pot House Lane in Oswaldtwistle; Hardman Close, and Peel Mount in Knuzden; St Oswalds Road, Devonshire Drive, Lancaster Drive, Pickup Street, Church Street and Barnes Square in Clayton-le-Moors, Whalley Old Road (Painter Wood), Billington; Schofield Road, Oaklands Drive, and Mount Street in Rawtenstall; Moorlands, Gordon Street, and Bankside Lane in Bacup; Cedar Avenue, Haslingden; Huttock End Lane, Sowclough Road, and Osbourne Terrace in Stacksteads; Lobden Crescent, Whitworth, Cowpe Road, Waterfoot; Wheatley Lane Road, Pendle; and Hillside Close, Burnley.
Mr Musa said: “We know there’s pressure on parking in some areas, but we’d ask people to think about how they park and leave room for gritters to pass."
He added that parking on corners is a real problem as it means the gritters don’t have room to turn.
