A MOTHER dubbed a "true inspiration" by other cancer patients has died - more than three years after being given 48 hours to live.

Marian Motupalli was told countless times she had just hours to live, and seven doctors told her she would not live to see Christmas 2004 - when a large tumour was discovered in her ovaries that could not be fully removed.

But after doctors broke the devastating news, Marian, whose fight has been described as 'bravery beyond comprehension' by East Lancashire Hospice, was determined to live life to the full and enjoy herself.

The 46-year-old mother of four refused to give in and began researching online for alternative treatments.

"She even taught me things about alternative therapy," said her husband, Murthy, a GP at Blackburn Road Medical Practice, Accrington.

Despite her weight falling to five-and-a-half stone at one point, Marian, of The Dene, Beardwood, never gave up hope. And she was dedicated to sharing that hope with others, making a dear diary' DVD, assisted by Blackburn College, to help newly-diagnosed cancer patients.

She was described as an inspiration for others, living by the motto: "If you can't fill your life with more days, fill your days with more life", which she stuck to her fridge as a constant reminder.

Marian died on September 16 at East Lancashire Hospice, surrounded by her family. Husband Murthy said: "Marian was a devoted mother and wife. She fought her illness so courageously. She increased her life so much. She asked me to remind Harry every day how she tried her best to live as long as possible for him. I just wish we had longer together.

"I hope she can give others the same hope."

Harry Grayson, from the hospice, said: "Marian was a truly remarkable lady. She was strong willed with a very positive mind and fighting spirit. Marian has inspired other patients, staff and volunteers alike. She has shown bravery beyond comprehension."

Marian, who used to be a herbalist, was a talented tapestry embroiderer and property developer right up until she died. She leaves four children, Paul, 23, Christopher, 22, Rebecca, 25, and five-year-old Harry.

A celebration of life service will be held tomorrow, which Marian had planned herself, choosing her own songs, and requesting to be buried with a picture of Harry.

The service will be held in St Silas' Church, Preston New Road, Blackburn, at noon, and afterwards at Stanley House, Mellor, at 6pm.
