A TEENAGER has been handed a two year anti-social behaviour order banning him from a town centre after a campaign of intimidation.
Magistrates gave Jonathan Hogan, 16, of Waterside Road, Summerseat, Ramsbottom, the ASBO after the youth court was told about his intimidating behaviour.
The teen has been banned from the centre of Ramsbottom for two years after police applied for the order following 12 months of relentless intimidation'. The order was the result of a focused campaign between the police, council and Six Town Housing to tackle youth nuisance.
Hogan, only the second youth in Ramsbottom to be given an ASBO, is banned from carrying alcohol in public or using abusive, threate-ning or obscene language or going within 50m of Woodhey High School.
Sergeant Paul Tresnan told the court the youth had a long history of anti-social behaviour. After the hearing, he said: "In our fight against anti-social behaviour in Ramsbottom we have managed to secure another ASBO for one of our most prolific trouble makers.
"Over the last 12 months we have had reports of threatening and abusive behaviour from the public.
"He has no respect for authority and has been disrespectful towards police officers and members of the public.
"We intend to continue to target the problem youths in Ramsbottom and will take similar action against those who are intent in acting in an anti-social manner."
Councillor Michelle Wiseman, executive member for safe, strong and confident communities, said: "I sincerely hope he sticks to the restrictions placed on him and abides by the law, otherwise he will have to face the consequences."
The application was made by Bury Police and was awarded on August 30 at Bury Youth Court.
Several people have also received joint warnings under their tenancy agreement with Six Town Housing in the efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour.
