A YOB targeted a cat rescue vehicle smashing the car's back window with a rock.

The attack happened last Thursday close to the Beechwood Working Men's Club on Beechwood Road in Blackburn while volunteers Louise Fowler and Emma Church were out trying to rescue feral kittens.

The pair, who volunteer for Little Tinkers Helpers, an organisation which helps to re-home stray cats, are now appealing for help to catch the man.

Louise, 41, said: "We had had some reports of feral kittens in the area so went to try to find them.

"It is a massive problem in Blackburn as they are running near the roads and they are being run over.

"Some of them are getting cat flu if they are just running on the streets wild.

"There was a lad wearing a hood who had his back turned away from me.

"I went around the corner as i was trying to rescue some kittens and my colleague Emma shouted me to say someone had put a massive rock through the window.

"It was lucky she did not get hurt as she was inside the car at the time.

"It is also fortunate we did not have a cat in the back as it would have been injured by the rock or the shattered glass."

The attack happened at 9.45pm on Thursday.

Louise added: "I am so angry because I am trying to do my job trying to help cats.

"The police told me that I should not drive long distances so that means I won't be able to help out in Haslingden until I get it fixed.

"I am also going to have to pay out on my insurance for this."

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 10.20pm to reports of a car window had been broken on Beechwood Road in Blackburn.

"We are appealing for anyone with information to contact the police on 101 with the log number of 1609 of September 6."
