A COUNCIL-RUN day centre has been given £1,000 in by the family of one its former clients.

The daughters of the late Dorothy Sutcliffe made the donation to the hub for for adults with a learning disability or dementia run by Blackburn with Darwen Council.

A special plaque in her memory has now been installed in the centre’s garden.

The cash was given to the service users and employees at Stansfeld Day Centre in Stansfeld Street, Blackburn.

Carolyn Sutcliffe said: "Everyone was so willing to accommodate our mum.

"Such a lot of effort had gone into creating a wonderful environment for service users.

"It’s thanks to you all that I was able to keep mum at home for so long. My sisters and I are immensely grateful.

"We all felt that we would like to acknowledge the work you do at Stansfeld by making a gift in memory of our mum."

Service users purchased an iPad and craft items for the centre. Employees at Stansfeld Centre and Transport Services were also given a £10 gift voucher.

A Blackburn with Darwen Council spokeswoman said: "Everyone at Stansfeld Centre would like to say a big thank you to Dorothy’s daughter and family for their very kind gift."
