FROM sizzling Spanish delicacies to Asian treats and traditional Lancashire pies, there was something to tickle everybody’s taste buds at this year’s Clitheroe Food Festival.
Food vendors, musicians and entertainers from all over the world turned out in their hundreds to put on a mouth-watering display over the weekend, as thousands of people descended upon Clitheroe’s cobbled streets.
There were sweet stands and farm shops, ice-cream trucks and beer bars as well as chocolate masterclasses and wine and gin tasting events.
Up at the Castle there was a fun-fair for the festival’s younger attendees and music was played late into the night at Holmes Mill, who joined in with the festivities by offering a space for the party to continue after the street-vendors packed up their wares for the day.
But for some, there was nothing to pack-up at all as keen foodies cleared them out.
Farrie Abbas, from Nelson, is the proud owner of Farrie’s Asian Delights and was totally sold out of her homemade pakoras and kebabs by 2.30pm.
Ms Abbas said: “This is my fourth year at the festival and it’s always a fantastic day. The only problem I have is that every year I come I sell-out earlier than the year before!”
Beer buses and Prosecco stalls lined the pavements, with the Clitheroe Lions Club selling fizz and strawberries from their stand and make-shift terrace.
Alan Clifford, past-present Vice President, said: “It has been a fabulous day which looks to be our most successful yet.”
The Lions Club, who recently refurbished six benches in the town centre to mark its centenary, will donate all proceeds made at the festival to local charities like the Air Ambulance.
Claire Taylor, from Manchester, said this is the third year she has visited the festival and it ‘just keeps getting better’.
The mum-of-three said: “We make a day of it and really look forward to coming.
“The atmosphere is fantastic and we like fact there really is something for everyone to enjoy.
“This year we have come with the kids and met up with some friends, the weather has been generous too!We look forward to coming back every year.”
