THE mother of a five-year-old boy with a rare form of liver cancer has once again called on people to donate money for treatment in the USA after he had a bad reaction to his latest chemotherapy treatment.

Charlie Procter, from Church, was first diagnosed with cancer in February 2016.

Two weeks ago, it was discovered that more tumours had grown on his liver and after a 16-month break from treatment it was decided that restarting chemotherapy would be the best option.

But the day after he returned home from treatment, Charlie developed a rash all over his body.

Despite doctors not being able to say for sure what the cause of the rash was, they have advised that another round of treatment could prove fatal.

Charlie’s mum, Amber Schofield, said: “We’ve been left with no choice but to stop his treatment, which is so hard as we have just found out the chemo has been working and had lowered his cancer levels.

“He’s currently back in Manchester Children’s Hospital and doctors in the intensive care unit are keeping a close eye on him.

“We really need to raise enough money to get to the United States as soon as possible as his treatment options in the UK are now so limited.

“I hate seeing him like this. He should be enjoying his school holiday, playing out, but instead he’s constantly fighting for his life and having so many complications.”

Mum and dad Amber and Ben and little sister Jessica are now desperately fundraising to take Charlie to the US as they feel they have exhausted all avenues for treatment in the UK.

Ms Schofield said: “Our only option of hope is to fly to Cincinnati where doctors have advised us they may be able to help.

“We plan to try to leave in the next couple of weeks and just hope that the fundraising efforts come through so we can pay for treatment if they can offer help.

“In our eyes the worst that can happen is we don’t get enough help and we have to fly home, but then at least we have tried.”
