BLACKBURN was filled with colour and creativity as the final pieces of its art festival concluded at the weekend.

Artists from Lancashire and around the world took to large walls across the town centre and covered them in stunning artwork.

The festival was organised by street artist Hayley Welsh, originally from the town but now living in Australia, and Blackburn-based Alexandra Gallagher.

This year the vent has received a grant from Arts Council England on top of sponsorship and support from Blackburn with Darwen Council. A tour of the artwork also took place.

Blackburn-based Emma Colbert also created art in a pop-up studio in Northgate. An exhibition of contemporary art takes place at Prism Gallery, Lord Street West, until July 27.

One passer-by who was admiring the work in Pilkington Street, said: “The fantastic art really brightens up the town and makes its shabbier bits much more appealing.”
