COMPLAINTS are being made about inconsiderate parents who park on a roundabout outside a school.

St Stephen’s CE Primary School in Little Harwood has been the subject of many complaints regarding parking on a roundabout outside the school and a nursery, posing risks to children crossing.

The school itself complained to councillors and warned parents against parking on the roundabout, but nothing has been done to prevent the problem in the last few years.

Robinson Street, where the roundabout is situated, is closed off to traffic half way down, and cars parked on the roundabout block the path make it hard for vehicles to turn around.

They also make it difficult to see for people crossing.

Concerned residents have voiced their concerns, with one saying: “Someone is going to be killed. You can’t see around the area because of the parked cars.

“There’s no safety there, and when I tried to get past, I got abuse from the parents who park there.”

Headteacher Jacquelyn Young said: “A zebra crossing should be in place on Phillips Road to help in crossing a busy road.

“Once school has finished we also get groups of cars lined up side by side, revving their engines and playing their music. An automatic barrier may be the only solution here.

“The police have been involved, on occasions issuing tickets to parents, as have our school council. This usually results in abusive language or an improvement for a day.”

Cllr Naushad Surve, who represents the Little Harwood ward on Blackburn with Darwen Council, said it was an ongoing issue and would be dealt with.

He said: “We urge people to take responsibility and think about the safety of the children.

“It’s inconsiderate and bad planning from the parents who park on the roundabout," she said.
