LANCASHIRE County Council will tomorrow be urged to object to government plans to take control of planning permission for fracking applications.
The authority's Green member, Lancaster North's Cllr Gina Dowding, has tabled a motion to its full council meeting.
It urges the county council to oppose the latest government plans to remove the need for local authorities to give formal planning permission to small fracking developments and redefine major proposals for shale gas extraction as 'Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects' 'thus removing any local authority control and community involvement in decision-making'.
It urges the council to write to government ministers objecting to any such moves.
Cllr Dowding said: "Local authorities are best placed to continue to make decisions throughout the planning process for shale gas exploration drilling, appraisal and production."
