A WOMAN stabbed her boyfriend in the back and punctured his lung after thinking he was interested in another woman, a court heard.

Leanne Holly Duckworth had been at a party in Accrington when she attacked Dean Evans with a knife on Friday, Preston Crown Court was told.

Duckworth, 28, stabbed Mr Evans with a three-inch blade in his left shoulder blade, leading him to be treated at hospital.

The court heard Duckworth had stabbed Mr Evans after he had allegedly taken an interest in another woman at the party.

The couple had an on-off relationship which was fairly volatile.

Peter Barr, prosecuting, said: “At the time, they were in a relationship.

“It is right to say they have a slightly confusing history.

“They had been drinking a lot, there was a lot of people there socialising.

“The defendant challenged Mr Evans after he had apparently showed interest in a lady at some point that night, that triggered the incident.

“The defendant goes into the kitchen and arms herself with a knife.

“It is described as a black handle with a silver blade.

“The kitchen knife was six inches long and the blade was three inches.

“Mr Evans was admitted to hospital, X-ray results showed he had a collapsed lung.”

The court heard Duckworth had pleaded guilty to wounding and only had one previous caution for assault.

James Heyworth, defending, said: “It was very much out of character.

“It is difficult to understand what happened,

“Everyone that night had been drinking a significant amount.

“It is fortunate this was not any more serious than it was.

“She is sorry about what happened.”

Duckworth, of Ainsworth Close, Darwen, pleaded guilty to one count of wounding.

Judge Beverley Lunt said the case would be adjourned for sentencing until Monday, September 3.
