NEIGHBOURS involved in a long running dispute began filming each other during a chance meeting on the street where they lived.

Blackburn magistrates heard Mahmood Hussain responded by taking a two foot steel drill bit from the boot of his car and threatening the other man with it.

Hussain, 52, of Stevenson Street East, Accrington, was convicted after trial of using threatening behaviour towards Mohammed Suleman.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 80 hours' unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £620 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said the neighbour dispute had been going on for over two years. There had been previous police intervention but no prosecutions.

On the day of the incident Mr Suleman left his home to take his young son to kickboxing and Hussain was standing across the road filming him.

"The aggrieved asked why he was filming him and then took out his phone and started filming the defendant," said Miss Akhtar.

"The defendant responded by taking a two-foot drill bit from his car and made a comment about sorting the other man out."

Tahir Ayub, defending, said the incident had been out of character and a one off.

"The CCTV footage showed a confrontation but there was no actual violence," he said.

"There have been no further incidents since November and Mr Suleman does not ask the court to impose any kind of restraining order.

"They are managing to get on with life without any problems."
