A 60-YEAR-OLD woman who had been battling mental health problems for several months died after taking her own life, an inquest heard.

Janet Read was found hanged at her Blackburn home on April 14 this year.

Born in Blackburn, Ms Read had been suffering from anxiety and depression for a number of months, the inquest at Preston Coroner's Court heard.

The hearing heard how her husband James Read had left the house in Bolton Road the go out at about midday on April 14.

When he returned home, he found her hanged.

Paramedics attended and confirmed her death.

Mr Read said: "She was troubled about a number of problems.

"I persuaded her to make an appointment with her GP.

"She was due to go to to the doctors on the Monday morning, as she had an appointment.

"On the Saturday, she said she was going to have a rest to read.

"So I went out of the house for an hour or so and when I returned, I found her hanging."

Her GP Dr Mousa said: "I had a telephone call with her and her husband on April 12.

"Ms Read tried to explain to me how she was struggling with very bad anxiety and struggling to sleep.

"She expressed no thoughts of self-harm."

Pathologist Dr Mark Sissons, who conducted the post-mortem examination, said the medical cause of Ms Read's death was hanging.

PC Paul Heaton, who attended her death, said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Recording a verdict that Ms Read died as a result of suicide, East Lancashire assistant coroner Richard Taylor, said: "Whilst suffering from anxiety/depression which was untreated, she had an appointment with a doctor.

"Janet has done a deliberate act while her husband was out.

"Her only intention must have been to end her life.

"That is beyond doubt.

"I conclude that Ms Read died as a result of suicide."
