SUNFLOWER plaques dedicated to lost loved ones could be created following an appeal launched by a hospice.

Pendleside Hospice is appealing for people to plant sunflowers in the hospice grounds, with each sunflower plaque having the name of a loved one hand written on it.

These will then be planted in the hospice grounds at a special Celebration of Life service in June, which is traditionally Hospice Sunflower Month.

Sunflower Memories was first held at Pendleside in 2016 and there were 721 sunflower plaques adorned around the hospice gardens last year.

In total £9,418 was raised in 2017 from Sunflower Memories, helping the hospice to provide care and support to people.

This year's Celebration of Life Service will take place at 2pm on June 2 and organisers have said it is open to all, and after dedicating the sunflowers, there will be cream teas and other refreshments available as well as various hospice stalls.

Sunflower plaques will be available to purchase should anyone wish to take one away and plant in their own garden or planter at home.

To dedicate a sunflower plaque visit the hospice website at www.pendleside.org.uk

To acknowledge each donation a sunflower card will be sent out along with a voucher redeemable at the hospice shops or hospice reception for a sunflower pin badge.
