A VAPING store has been shut by police over suspicions the business was selling so-called 'legal highs'.

Lancashire County Council Trading Standards and the local police neighbourhood team were granted a search warrant to visit Smoke n Vape in St James's Street, in Burnley town centre this afternoon.

The visit, which took place at around 5pm, came following allegations the store was selling 'pyschoactive drugs'.

Following the store's search officers said they found evidence to support the allegations and placed an 'immediate closure order' on the town centre premises.

This means the store will remain closed for 24 hours, until 5pm Friday.

The police's findings will be brought to court tomorrow to seek the store's permanent closure.

Police said on Facebook: "Today trading standards and Burnley Police Neighbourhood team executed a visit to Smoke n Vape in Burnley town centre.

"The search revealed cash and what is believed to be psychoactive drugs along with other supporting evidence.

"An immediate closure order is in place on the premises under section 76 and 77 of the anti social behaviour act 2014."

Producers and suppliers of so-called legal highs face up to seven years in jail under legislation introduced across the UK in 2016.

Officially described as new psychoactive substances (NPS), legal highs were been linked to a number of deaths and hospital admissions in the years leading up to the ban on the drugs.
