A MAJOR effort to help people look after their health and welfare is reaping dividends with hundreds getting involved.

Thousands of people have been joining a series of weekly walks put on by public health professionals at East Lancashire Primary Care Trust in partnership with Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS.

Attendance numbers are pushing towards the 3,000 mark for the nine Stepping Out' walks that have been on offer each week since the beginning of the year.

One of the most popular series of walks are the ones based on Oswaldtwistle, with up to 40 residents joining the Thursday morning stroll that lasts just over the hour.

The more adventurous walkers are opting for the two-hour walks each Monday afternoon that start off outside the Wellington Pub in Clayton le Moors.
