A 26-YEAR-OLD Darwen man "flipped" when his girlfriend finally admitted to sleeping with his cousin after two weeks of denying her infidelity, a court heard.

Hyndburn magistrates heard that Joseph Docherty and his partner, Joanne Brine, had been drinking cider and sniffing butane gas all day prior to the incident.

And Pam Baldwin, defedning, said that Miss Brine went on to taunt her partner about the relationship with his cousin.

"That is what caused him to lose control," said Miss Baldwin.

Docherty, of Ivinson Road, pleaded guilty to assaulting Miss Brine, damaging a television and stereo belonging to her and two interior doors belonging to her father.

He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report. Miss Baldwin said Docherty had been told two weeks earlier that his partner had slept with his cousin.

"She had spent two weeks denying it but having consumed a considerable amount of cider and sniffing butane gas she became more honest," said Miss Baldwin.
