TWO twinkle-toed youngsters will carry on competing, despite failing to make it to the final of a television dancing tournament.

Oliver Ramsey, 11, from Barnoldswick, and Amy Bryce, 10, from Burnley, were one of 14 couples selected for ITV's "Baby Ballroom - the Championship".

The pair, who have never competed together in ballroom dancing before, were not initially chosen for the final, but were hoping the audience vote on the Saturday, August 4 show would get them through on a wild card.

The results were revealed on Saturday but, unfortunately, they did not make the cut.

Oliver's mum, Vivienne Ramsey, who put up posters around Barnoldswick in an effort to drum up local support, said: "It was very close. They did not get enough votes, but they have had a good time and it has been a wonderful experience for them.

"I am going to have a chat with Amy's mum and where to go from here, but they will carry on with their dancing.

"That's the first time they have done a Latin and ballroom competition. In the past they have only competed in sequence dancing."

Baby Ballroom sees the most talented dancers aged under 12 in the UK battle it out in two separate heats to get through to the grand final.

Seven couples made it through to the final, but the public were given the chance to select the final wild card pair from the two heats.

Amy's mother Heather Bryce, 34, of Healey Court, Burnley, said it had been a wonderful experience for both dancers, despite them not making it to the final.

The civil servant said: "It's been fabulous and something that they thoroughly enjoyed. To get to the final 14 is quite an achievement."
