A MAN has been 'brutally' attacked with a bat.

Police were called to Padiham Road, Burnley shortly after 11am following reports that a man had been assaulted.

A police spokesman said the victim had parked his vehicle on the main road, close to Oddie’s bakery at around 11am.

As he left the vehicle he was approached by the offender who hit him several times in the head and on the body with a bat the spokesman said.

The man was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later discharged.

The spokesman said a 57-year-old man from Burnley has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released under investigation.

DC Lee Walker said: “This happened around lunchtime on a busy main road, and we’d appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious to please come forward.

"This is a brutal attack, and incidents of this nature will not be tolerated.

"We believe this is an isolated incident.”
