POLICE are encouraging people to be aware of doorstep traders.

Officers took to Facebook to remind people to be aware of traders taking money for services and not completing the work.

A police spokesman said: "This is just a quick reminder in regards to traders knocking on your door offering to do work for you.

"Although there will be some genuine people trying to find work, there are unfortunately others who may not be as honest.

"Please always ensure that you have an estimate for any work done.

"Please do not hand over any money before the work is completed.

"There have been cases where people have paid money and then after a couple of days nobody has turned up and the contact phone number has been switched off.

"If you have any vulnerable or elderly friends or family please remember to let them know."
