A MAN who stole a bike from a shed was detained inside a nearby shop after leaving it outside.

Blackburn magistrates heard Christian Wheadon had caused £300 worth of damage to the shed before removing the £200 cycle.

Wheadon, 29, of Edgeworth Grove, Burnley, pleaded guilty to burglary and theft of a bike.

He was sentenced to four weeks in prison for the offence and a further 12 weeks for breach of a suspended prison sentence. Alex Mann, prosecuting, said the shed owner went to put some recycling out and discovered the bike was stolen and he and a neighbour for help and they made a search of the area without success.

“As the neighbour was going home he saw the bike outside a nearby shop,” said Mrs Mann. “They went in and detained the defendant until the police arrived.”

Mark Williams, defending, said his client accepted he would be going to prison.

“He has a drug habit which is running out of control and he is not in a good place at the moment,” said Mr Williams.
