THE sky was the limit for pupils at Stonyhurst College judging by this photograph from the Lancashire Telegraph archives.
Taken in 1937 it shows Father J P Rowland who had been a member of staff at the Jesuit College in the Ribble Valley since 1919 looking through the 15-inch telescope at the astronomical observatory.
There were two buildings at the observatory, one to house the telescope and a second building with instruments to measure climate and weather.
Every day, Father Rowland would take down various measurements to keep a record of weather patterns and sightings in the night sky.
