A 50-YEAR-OLD woman has suffered head injuries after colliding with a car in Burnley.

An air ambulance has been called to the scene near the Bridge Pub on Bridge Street at midday.

A spokeman for North West Ambulance Service said: "The 50-year-old was in collision with a car.

"She has a head injury but is breathing and is consious.

"The air ambulance is in the area and she was flown to Royal Preston Hospital."

An eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said: "The woman was crossing the road and we think the car came down off the roundabout.

"There were lots of first-aiders at the scene very quickly from Charter Walk and the security staff too.

"There was a lot of people who were worried about her and it looked as if she was in a bad way going in and out of conciousness.

"The woman driver was also very shook up.

"The air ambulance landed near the courts and an ambulance drove the woman there.

"We just hope that she will be okay."

Another eyewitness said: "There were a lot of police and paramedics at the scene.

"The air ambulance was struggling to find a place to land and was hovering overheard.
"The paramedics were working on the lady who was lying  on the ground as police set up a cordon.

"It looks like she had been hit by a black people carrier.

"Hopefully she's going to be okay.

A police spokesman said: "The collision was between a pedestrian and a Black Vauxhall Zafira and they are looking to take her to hospital."
