A BURNLEY teenager has been given an Anti-Social Behaviour Order after terrorising people in the Queensgate area of the town.

Neighbourhood policing officers secured the ASBO on 16-year-old Storm McGowan of Holcombe Drive, Burnley which will prevent him from being in the Queensgate Ward of Burnley for the next two years between the hours of 8pm and 7am.

McGowan faces arrest if he chooses to ignore the conditions imposed on him. The conditions prohibit McGowan from: Causing harassment, alarm and distress to any person.

Possessing any open container of alcohol in a public place, or being under the influence of alcohol in a public place.

Being within the ward area of Queensgate Burnley as bounded by Windermere Avenue, Casterton Avenue, Briercliffe Road, Barden Lane between the hours of 8pm and 7am unless attending Burnley General for treatment.

Police Community Support Officer for the Queensgate Ward Nigel Keates said "Without the help and support of members of the community coming forward and attending community meetings, this Anti-Social Behaviour Order on McGowan would have been much more difficult to secure.

"I would hope that this will send out a strong message that should any person continue to act in an anti-social manner they will face similar sanctions.

"The tide is turning and with the help of local residents the drive continues to ensure that anti-social behaviour is dealt with and the Anti-Social Behaviour Order empowers communities to assist police in taking action against offenders."

Joanne Knox, anti-social behaviour officer at Burnley Council, said "Residents within parts of the Queensgate Ward have suffered at the hands of anti-social behaviour for months.

"By working closely with PCSO Nigel Keates a lot of action has already been taken against individuals who cause misery to many residents week in week out within this area.

"Securing the Anti-Social Behaviour Order on Storm McGowan continues to send a clear message to other individuals who cause Anti-Social Behaviour - this behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated."
