A TERRIFIED hairdresser was attacked by her ex-boyfriend at her salon as customers fought to to stop him, a court was told.

Builder Martin Magee, 28, was drunk when he got into his van, turned up at the shop in Market Street, Bacup, on a busy Saturday morning and assaulted Lisa Camps in front of clients.

Magee had barged into the premises, demanding to see the victim outside.

He then lunged towards her and pushed her into the window as customers pulled him away.

The defendant left, returned and tried to get back in the shop, but customers blocked the door. He was arrested after clients called the police. Miss Camps was left shaking, frightened and fighting back tears.

The defendant, described as upset because the victim was said to have seeing another man behind his back, admitted assault by beating, driving with excess alcohol and no insurance, on May 19.

Magee, of Haslingden Road, Rawtenstall, was given a 12 -month community order with supervision and 150 hours' unpaid work. He was also fined £550, banned for three years and must pay £100 compensation, £75 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Magee had 15 previous convictions.

Jeremy Coleman, defending, said Magee was sorry for what happened.

He had been drunk at the time, but understood the effects of what he had done, Mr Coleman said.

The solicitor said the defendant had been upset because Miss Camps had been seeing another man behind his back and went to challenge her about it.
