A MAN attacked his partner in the toilets at a social services office after a row over their baby daughter, a court heard.

Daniel Wood, 38, who had earlier walked off with the infant in a pram after a drinking session, headbutted Leanne Hilton in the face as her horrified friend cried for help, Burnley magistrates heard.

Wood, who later told police he had "lost his rag" admitted he got angry when he had had a drink.

The defendant, of Regent Street, Nelson, was given a two-year community order with supervision and must pay £100 compensation and £75 costs. He pleaded guilty to assault.

Bill Maude, prosecuting, told the court Miss Hilton had lived with Wood for two-and-a-half years and they had a five-month-old child.

On July 17, they went into the town centre with Miss Hilton's friend and went into the Clayton Arms pub.

She had a cola while Wood had about eight pints of lager. They came out of the pub, she was pushing the pram and Wood snatched it off her, saying she wasn't having the baby.

Mr Maude said Miss Hilton was upset and called Wood's mother, who advised her to go to the social services where the attack happened.

Wood was arrested but said he couldn't really remember anything although he agreed he had headbutted his partner.

John Nuttall, defending, said Wood and his partner had argued over a job application.

He went on: "The defendant has been waiting for a domestic violence and anger management course."
