TWO twinkle-toed youngsters will be hoping to tango their way to victory in a television dancing tournament.

Oliver Ramsey, 11, from Barnoldswick, and Amy Bryce, 10, from Burnley, were one of 14 couples selected for "Baby Ballroom - the Championship", which starts on ITV tomorrow.

And people are being urged to get behind Oliver and Amy, who have never competed together in ballroom dancing before, as their place in the final of the show could rest on an audience vote.

Baby Ballroom will see the most talented under-12 dancers in the UK fight it out in two separate heats to get through to the grand final.

Only seven couples can make it through but it will be up to the public to select the final wild card' pair from the two heats who they think should go through to the grand final, where they will compete for the Baby Ballroom Trophy.

Oliver's mum, Vivienne Ramsey, has been putting post-ers up around Barnoldswick in an effort to drum up local support for her son and Amy.

Mrs Ramsey applied for the show after seeing a flyer at a dance festival in Blackpool but says she wasn't holding her breath.

She said: "We didn't really think they stood much chance of getting on but then we got the phone call. It was quite exciting really. We were so surprised. We made some inquiries and then they were invited to Manchester for the auditions."

Mrs Ramsey said that Oliver, who is due to start at West Craven High in September, began dancing at the age of five and loves performing a range of styles, including street dancing and hip hop.

However, he didn't try ballroom until he was seven and has never competed in the discipline before.

She said: "He started dancing because his older sister dances a lot and he decided he'd have a go himself."

Heather Bryce, 34, of Healey Court, Burnley, said she picked up a flyer for the competition at a sequence dancing competition and applied for it.

The civil servant said: "We were absolutley thrilled when we found out they were through.

"She loves it. It's her life."

The Read St John's Primary School pupil started disco dancing at the age of four after she saw her mother in a video, and began ballroom aged six.

She got together with Oliver two years later and they have competed in sequence dancing.

Mrs Bryce said: "Originally she started disco dancing and was really successful at this winning the European Championship when she was eight. She trains four times a week."
