A MAN and woman who allegedly attacked police called to intervene in a fight that had broken out after a funeral have been arrested.

Officers were called to Rosegrove Lane Burnley shortly before midnight following reports of a group of males fighting.

The officers were met by a 21-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man who were both intoxicated, police said.

A police spokesman said: "The woman approached the officers asking for help and said the man was being aggressive."

Police then sprayed the man with pepper spray after he became violent.

Officers said the man then began striking himself in the face before grabbing an officer who tried to control him around the neck.

Police the woman then began the officers as they tried to restrain the man and spat in the face of one officer.

The pair were arrested and are currently being questioned.

The officers received minor injuries but were able to remain on duty the spokesman said.
