FURIOUS residents have called on the council to take preventative measures after travellers returned to a town's car park.

Nine vans, four caravans and a number of cars moved onto the overspill car park near Ewood Park.

Last month, residents accused travellers, believed to have moved from Pleasington playing fields earlier in August, of throwing eggs and sticks at houses and defecating in public.

Resident Jim Read, who lives on Bolton Road, said that a different group of travellers arrived at the Ewood site on Tuesday night - and called on Blackburn with Darwen Council to improve security on the site.

Mr Read, 65, said: “I was eating my tea with my wife on Tuesday night when we heard a noise outside and looked out of the window and saw the travellers had arrived.

“It’s a different group to last time as they have different vehicles.

“They had got into the site by breaking a padlock off the gate stopping them from getting into the site.

“We just don’t want them there as it’s not something you want on your backdoor step.

“There are residents who have complained to the council and police and the council need to do something about it to move the travellers and improve security on the site.”

Lancashire Police said they received two reports at around 8pm on Tuesday from people complaining about travellers in the area behind Bolton Road.

No one from Blackburn with Darwen Council was available for comment when contacted by the Lancashire Telegraph.

It comes after complaints from residents in Darwen who are furious that travellers have not been moved along from Olive Lane Park.

The travellers had set up camp on a piece of grass between the play park and the skate park and set out camping chairs.

Blackburn with Darwen council said its highways department were able to issue a notice to remove the travellers and ‘will be doing this.’ Police said that they visited the scene last Tuesday and spoke with the travellers, and said officers would keep an eye on the site and continue to speak with them on a regular basis.
