NOW here’s a sight you don’t see every day - a Shetland pony pulling a customised cart through the streets of Rawtenstall!
We believe that the photograph from the Lancashire Telegraph archives was taken around 1976 or 1977 but that’s about as much information as we have. So we’re appealing to readers to see if they can help fill in a few gaps about this mystery sighting.
It looks as though the young girl leading the pony and cart was doing her shopping. But who was she and did she regularly head into town with her pony?
Judging by the look of surprise on the woman working past on the left, small ponies in the town centre weren’t a common sight.
If you can help solve the mystery you can email gill.johnson@nqnw.co.uk or ring her on 01254 298223
