A FESTIVAL celebrating the heritage of Burnley will take place next month.

The Towneley Heritage and Woodland Festival will see people take part in willow weaving, meeting birds of prey and watching a reenactment of the 1745 Jacobite Rising.

The mock re-enactment will commemorate the history of Francis Towneley, who was executed during the rebellion in 1745.

Wood carvers, archers, story tellers and much more will be featured in event, which is the grand finale of the borough’s heritage open day weekend.

There will also be a variety of stalls in and around the hall and visitors will be able to enjoy. The Accrington Pipe Band will also play throughout the event.

Cllr John Harbour, Burnley Council’s executive member for housing and environment, said: “The festival gives everyone a great opportunity to explore Towneley’s wonderful surroundings, enjoy captivating stories about the place and learn more about modern and traditional woodland crafts. It’s going to be a fun-packed day so come along and enjoy the many activities on offer.”

The event will take place on Sunday, September 10.
