A MAN used his body as a human shield to protect his son from flying glass after a neighbour threw a brick through the window.

Blackburn magistrates David Anthony Corless threw another brick and a wheelie bin at the house as he ranted and raved outside.

Corless, 31, of Skye Crescent, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to damaging windows worth £200 belonging to Johnathan Corker and damaging a mattress belonging to Lancashire police.

He was sentenced to six weeks in prison suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £200 compensation for the windows and £5 for the mattress.

Alex Mann, prosecuting, said at around 11pm on Saturday Mr Corker heard shouting and swearing from an upstairs flat and shouted for the people responsible to be quiet.

"A couple of minutes later the defendant walked through the front gate shouting and swearing," said Mrs Mann. "He then approached the front door and started kicking it before throwing a wheelie bin at the house."

Mrs Mann said Corless threw two bricks at the house and one of them smashed a window sending glass flying inside the house.

"Mr Corker used his body to shield his son from the glass before moving him into another room," said Mrs Mann.

Graeme Parkinson, defending, said when the police arrived his client was waiting outside and made a full admission of what had happened.

"Both neighbours seem to blame the other for the ongoing problems between them," said Mr Parkinson.
