AN MP has lambasted the government after the estimated cost of refurbishing the Houses of Parliament have more than tripled.
Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans said there were big questions to answer about the 'spiralling waste of taxpayers’ money' on Big Ben, after it fell silent yesterday until 2021.
He said: “Big questions have got to be asked why it is that the cost has spiralled.
“As you know we’re also talking about the refurbishment of the whole of Parliament. That started at one and a bit billion, we’re now on about four billion pounds, that was the last estimate I heard.
“If they can’t get Big Ben right, what hope have I or anyone else got that they’re going to get the whole of Parliament right, bit worrying isn’t it.”
