A ‘MUCH-needed’ stable site which could ‘provide significant boosts’ to the area have been lodged.

Proposals have been submitted for Spring Vale Livery Stables in Green Haworth near Accrington for a large redevelopment of the site.

Plans have been tabled for 13 new stable blocks to be created and two more to be completed, as well as five arena lighting poles and storage facilities.

Two pedestrian access routes would also be created at the Willows Lane venue.

Currently the site just consists of a livery yard, a general storage area and six spaces parking.

But Kathryn Williams from Spring Vale Farm has big plans for the site, and already has a waiting list for users.

A design and access statement for the plans said: “There is a strong, horse-based, recreational culture in this area.

“A short drive around the local area and down the bridleway will demonstrate just how popular horses are, with at least eight livery yards within half a mile.

“The waiting list we have established from local people, without significant advertising, reflects the demand for a good quality livery service in this area.

“There are significant benefits, not only for Spring Vale Livery, but also for other local businesses and horse-owners through the rent of facilities.

“It is hoped that Spring Vale Livery will have a region-wide impact.”

Spring Vale Livery was purchased by Miss Williams in Spring 2016 after a lengthy search for a property that would be suitable for such a business.

When purchased, Spring Vale had livery facilities for nine horses and a dilapidated arena but it is now hope it will be able to ‘comfortably host 20 horses without the damage’.

The site provides 26 acres of grassland and if planning approval is granted the site will be open to users from 6am until 9pm seven days a week.

It also wants to increase car parking to 15 spaces.

Cllr Julie Livesey, who represents the Immanuel ward on Hyndburn Council where the site is located, said she sees no problems with the plans.

She said: “It is a quite rural area. There are a lot of horse users in the area so I imagine it would be a useful and well used facility.

“It would be good to have this sort of facility to help people who are interested in horses.”
