HUNDREDS of people came out to raise money for charity and support emergency services across the area.

Rosemere Cancer Foundation held its annual 999 family fun day in Darwen market on Saturday.

Vehicles and officers from police, ambulance and fire services were in attendance to talk to people about what they do, and give children a chance to sit in their vehicles.

Staff members of the North West Blood Bikes and the mountain rescue team were also there on the day.

There was also fun and games for guests to enjoy, with activities include face painting, a raffle, a tombola, fairground rides and more.

Dan Hill, head of fundraising at Rosemere, said the day was a success.

He said: "For the last four years Rosemere have been organising the 999 family fun day.

"It's about raising awareness of what we do, and the great work the emergency services do.

"I know when I was a kid I would loved to have say in a fire engine, so it's great for them.

"The turnout today has been fantastic.

"It's great for the town and the market as well, we've had great footfall today it's been so busy, thankfully the weather held off."

PCSO Nick Gisicz from Darwen Neighbourhood Policing team said: "It’s a fabulous day to highlight the vital work of the emergency services whilst raising money for a good cause.

"I’d like to thank everyone for their efforts in pulling together."

The final amount raised is still to be calculated and will go to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation
