BURGLARY figures across Padiham have halved in the last six months.

The overall crime figures, which were released by Burnley Council, show from January to June of this year, crime fell from 392 incidents to 364, compared to the previous six months - a fall of seven per cent from the same period last year.

From July to December 2016, 88 burglaries were committed, but that figure dropped to 43 in the first six months of this year.

The news come just two months after the ‘Make Padiham Safe Again’ campaign was launched by worried residents.

The campaign was started by Nick Yates, a customer of Farny's Sarnies, in Burnley Road, was hit by an arson attack.

The campaign demanded more CCTV cameras and police patrols in the town to combat crime.

Cllr Lian Pate, the council’s executive member for community services, said: “We’ve acted with the police and other partners to respond to complaints raised by residents and councillors in Padiham, particularly around concerns over increased levels of crime such as burglary, both in homes and commercial property.

“We’re also aware of increased concerns about anti-social behaviour in the town and have taken steps to tackle the problem.”

Other figures showed the number of anti-social behaviour crimes have dropped by 34 per cent, compared to the first quarter of 2016 and this year.

The council has worked with the police to introduce extra patrols, targeting known offenders and providing shed alarms.
