THE Liberal Democrat candidate for Pendle admits he is ‘a glutton for punishment’ as he prepares to fight his sixth General Election on June 8.
Gordon Lishman, 69, fought his last one in Blackburn in 2015 with prostate cancer, coming fourth with 995 votes.
The former director general of Age Concern previously fought Pendle in 1983 and 1987 as well as Bradford North in two elections in 1974.
The Briercliffe resident and grandfather-of-five said: “I must be a glutton for punishment but I do my duty by the party.
“If nothing else I live by Age Concern’s view that getting older should not stop you being active.
“In 1983 I got the party’s highest ever vote in Pendle and I hope to match that.
“This time I am fully fit and well and intend to fight a vigorous campaign.”
Tory candidate and former MP Andrew Stephenson said: “Gordon is a worthy and seasoned opponent.
“I wish him good luck and good health, but not too much good luck.”
