A NURSE will have her cooking assessed by millions of television viewers this week as she appears on Masterchef.

Bev Buller, 46, from Brownhill, Blackburn, swept through a selection and audition process which involved more than 3,000 applicants to become one of the 64 contestants in the show's 13th series.

Mrs Buller, who is a mum-of-two and works for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, cooked dishes for judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace during what she called a ‘special and memorable’ experience.

Her first round efforts will be broadcast on BBC1 on Thursday, April 6, at 8pm along with another seven hopefuls.

Mrs Buller, who attended Pleckgate High School and Accrington and Rossendale College, has always been a keen cook but the call to go for an audition came a surprise to her.

“I got an e-mail but I didn’t even know I’d entered as my boyfriend Jonathan Towers had done the application,” she said

“We watch the show together and he always said I should have a try.

“From there I had a detailed phone interview and then a day in Manchester with two producers where they filmed me and I took along a chicken dish I had cooked.

“They also see how you react to television cameras but I just pretended they weren’t there.

“I was then told I had been selected which was unbelievable.

“I’ve been told that many people, even some former winners apply year after year before they get in so I’ve been very fortunate to get a place at the first attempt.

“I totally enjoyed the whole experience. It was special and memorable.”

Of course, she is not allowed to reveal the outcome of the show but said prior to filming she did plenty of practice at home.

Mrs Buller said: “My two daughters are more fish finger and chips girls than venison but they enjoy my cooking, or at least they say they do.

“I also enjoy entertaining for friends and family and have always liked being in the kitchen.

“I’m not one of those cooks who measures everything out precisely or strictly follows recipes.

“I like to add my own little twists and my favourite dishes are probably pasta based ones.”

Her long time friend Joanne Elliott, said: “The show is perfect for Bev. She’s a brilliant cook and and a lovely woman."
