THE Lancashire Telegraph today moves to a new home in the heart of Blackburn town centre.

We will be based in modern offices at 50-54 Church Street, opposite the Mall and Blackburn Market.

It will be just the third headquarters for the paper in 130 years.

Group Editor Ian Savage said the Telegraph would remain committed to campaigning journalism and telling the people of East Lancashire what is happening in their area first.

The base, on two floors above the former One Rovers Shop and Tourist Information centre, will provide the perfect setting for the paper’s journalists to produce the newspaper and its award-winning website.

The reporting staff move today and the main reception will remain at Newspaper House until Friday April 7.

Mr Savage said: “We are now starting the latest, exciting, chapter in the history of the Lancashire Telegraph, remaining firmly at the heart of the community and the readers we serve.

“In our 130-year history we have only ever been produced from two sites, both on Railway Road in Blackburn, and now we are moving just a few hundred yards across the rapidly-evolving town to Church Street.

“This means our headquarters remains close to our readers and advertisers who are the key to our business and its ongoing success online and in print.”

Pendle Tory MP Andrew Stephenson said: “The Lancashire Telegraph is a vital part of local life which I could not do without. I am delighted its headquarters remains in the heart of one of East Lancashire’s main towns.”

Pendle Liberal Democrat peer Lord Tony Greaves said: “I am pleased that the paper will be able to serve all parts of East Lancashire, as it has done for 130 years, from the heart of its area.”

Blackburn with Darwen Council regeneration boss Phil Riley said: “It is excellent news that the Lancashire Telegraph will have its new base still in the heart of our redeveloped town.”

Former borough Tory leader and Mayor-elect Colin Rigby said: “The Lancashire Telegraph is a magnificent East Lancashire institution and I am pleased it is staying in the centre of Blackburn, where it needs to be.”

The four-storey building in Railway Road has been sold to become a new office and business hub.
