COUNCILLORS are considering a crackdown on plastic window frames along Colne’s main high street.
Area committee members have voiced concerns at the number of uPVC elements being found in shopfronts along Albert Road.
For more than 30 years the thoroughfare has been a designated conservation area which includes listed buildings such as Norway House and landmarks like Colne Municipal Hall and the Town Hall.
Several older buildings have retained their original joinery - which makes the later addition of uPVC doors and windows stand out.
Councillors are considering taking enforcement action against any unauthorised doors, windows and shopfronts.
Some shopkeepers have agreed to retain and repair old timbers but several uPVC examples remain.
