A £1.2MILLION investment has been announced to improve the appearance of Burnley homes.

Calico Homes will start this month working on the 96 properties most in need of renovation on the Brunshaw estate.

The work, which will be carried out by Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction, will include roofing replacement and repair.

It will also see guttering including fascias, soffits as well as bargeboards replaced along with new timber front and rear doors and repairs to rendering.

Phase one is due to start in this month on properties in Wycoller Avenue and Downham Grove and phase two will begin in April and will include houses in Waddington Avenue.

Calico is also spending £1m on new boilers and damp works on properties across the town.

Cllr Mark Townend, who represents the area and is also the leader of Burnley Council, said: “I welcome this investment and it’s great news for the area.

“It shows that Calico really cares about the properties it looks after.

“It’s better if work is done now because any problems arise that could negatively impact on the residents.

“I’m sure that the people who live in these houses will also welcome this project.”

The works follow a consultation process conducted by Calico across the area and condition surveys, which have identified the properties that are in need of refurbishment.

Property services manager Lisa Bell said: “The programme is part of our continual commitment to improve our properties.

“The works we are carrying out will make a significant improvement to the quality of our customer’s homes and we can’t wait to get started.”

Once work on these properties has been completed, Calico will look at how it can extend the improvement project to other areas.

External surveys are being completed to identify the next phase.

A customer liaison officer from Ring Stones will visit customers to complete a pre-start survey prior to works starting and will advise them what works will be completed to their homes and when they will take place.
