Man had cannabis plants

A MAN has been fined after admitting to growing cannabis.

Magistrates heard how Mark Anthony Rothwell, of Stonyhurst Road in Blackburn, was caught growing nine mature cannabis plants on November 4.

Rothwell, 39, also admitted a charge of stealing electricity.

He was fined £120, told to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Rothwell was given a 12-month conditional discharge for the electricity theft.

The growing equipment was seized and the cannabis is to be destroyed.

Man jailed after breach

A MAN has been jailed for 16 weeks after admitting to breaching the terms of his sexual harm prevention order.

Burnley magistrates heard Jamie Thomas Gorton broke the order terms by staying overnight at a house in the town where there were three female children under the age of 16 and the parent/guardian did not know he was banned from doing so.

It took place between December 1 and December 21.
Gorton, of Browsholme Avenue in Burnley, was also ordered to pay £115.

Man given suspended sentence

A MAN has been given a suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of assault.

Burnley magistrates heard how Bilal Ahmed Amjed, 23. assaulted Munir Hussain by beating him on August 25.

Amjed, of Hibson Road in Nelson, was sentenced to 26 weeks, suspended for 18 months and given a 16-week curfew.

It bans him from leaving his home address between 8pm and 11.59pm.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation, £450 prosecution costs and a £115 victim surcharge when he appeared before magistrates in Burnley.

Man faces robbery rap

A MAN has appeared in court accused of attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

Burnley magistrates heard Damian Robert Smith allegedly attempted to rob Sandra Varnavas of cash in Burnley on December 20.

Smith was remanded in custody to appear at Burnley Crown Court on January 19.

Driver banned

CALLUM David Wilkinson, 23, of Kestor Lane, Longridge, was fined £200 with £85 costs and banned from driving for 12 months after pleading guilty to driving with excess alcohol in Bolton Road, Abbey Village.

Woman wanted

AN arrest warrant was issued for Anne Armstrong West, 43, of Fawcett Close, Blackburn, when she failed to appear before magistrates to answer a charge of stealing fragrances.
