STARS of the big screen came to East Lancashire as the area played host to its very own Comic Con.

More than 2,000 sci-fi and superhero fans packed into King George’s Hall in Blackburn to see the likes of Dave Prowse, who played the iconic film villain Darth Vader in the original Stars Wars films and Tim Proctor from the Walking Dead.

Neil Fingleton, Ian McElhinney and Leigh Gill from Game of Thrones and Peter Davison, who was the fifth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who, also made an appearance.

Mr Proctor, who was in full zombie makeup, said: “It has been really good and really busy. It’s a good show. I love it.

“It’s my first time in the UK and I really like this area. I have only seen Blackburn and Manchester so far. Everybody is really nice and friendly. I have has such a good welcome.

“I want to come back as soon as I can.”

The festival, promoted by Wonky Rocket events, had more than 50 stalls and an ‘Iron Throne’ replica from Game of Thrones.

Other stars on shows included actress Nathalie Guzner and Arti Shah from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Josh Herdman, who played Gregory Goyle in all of the Harry Potter films, and Jesse McClure from Storage Hunters.

Organiser Daz Wildman said the event had exceeded expectations and confirmed there were plans for the event to return next year.

Mr Wildman, 42, said: “It has been absolutely fantastic. There has been a great response from people.

“We have had people attend from as far north as Edinburgh and as far south as Brighton.

“We have seen some great costumes and people have really got in to the spirit of the event.

“We have had actors from Doctor Who, Game of Thrones and Star Wars and they have all enjoyed the show.

“I have been into costuming and being a geek as they call it since I was a young lad.

“What we are noticing now is geek is becoming cool.”
