Dubbed the Songaminute Man, the 80-year-old from Blackburn, who has Alzheimer’s Disease, later released a version of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ You Make Me Feel So Young, which with the videos has so far raised £128,000 for research into the condition.

Now Simon and his cousin’s wife Lynne McDermott are set to travel to London to receive a Pride of Britain award on October 31, with the ceremony being shown on ITV the following night.

Last night Simon said: “It’s really flattering but we don’t really feel like we’ve done anything special really.

“The money we have raised for the Alzheimer’s Society will go towards funding their national dementia helpline, “This is something we wanted to support, to put something back, because it certainly helped us this time last year.”

The B-side of Ted’s single was the Engelbert Humperdinck number Quando, Quando, Quando, which is featured prominently on the videos.

Simon has explained how revisiting the songs has assisted with his father’s condition.

The former Butlin’s Redcoat, who is married to Linda, went to the world-famous Abbey Road Studios to record his tracks with the Guy Barker Big Band.

Record producer Alexander Van Ingen described Ted’s voice as “full of character and experience”, making it a tight with the 1946 vintage Sinatra song.

A Pride of Britain spokesman said: “The family has won a special recognition award for their carpool karaoke fundraising efforts.”

Other awards will reward ‘children of courage’ and leading fundraisers.
