Mr Chapman, who lives in Blackburn, has supported the hospice for more than 10 years.

He said: “Painting is both a hobby and a passion, so for my work to raise much-needed hospice funds is wonderful.

“I hope whoever wins them enjoys my versions of these local landmarks as well as knowing they have helped a very worthwhile charity.” A range of Christmas cards and calendar also featuring images by Mr Chapman are on sale now at the hospice shops and website to raise funds.

John Chapman’s scene of the Calder from Whalley is just one of the many Christmas card designs.

The scene at the weir was painted by Mr Chapman and is reminiscent of when the river last froze over about 15 years ago.

Hospice fundraiser Kim Greaves said that people send their cards all over the world.

She said: “Many send the John Chapman cards overseas to be enjoyed by friends and family who have moved abroad.

“Our cards and calendars are sent to Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada and evoke wonderful memories of how the towns and countryside in East Lancashire used to look, thanks to the fantastic skills of John Chapman.”

Last year the hospice raised £20,000 from the sale of all of its Christmas cards which are available from all the hospice shops, the main reception and on the website.

This year’s hospice ball will see Strictly Come Dancing professional dancers Kristina Rihanoff and Ian Waite performing.

Hospice fundraiser Denise Gee said: “The ball continues to be a grand and enjoyable night with many of our supporters returning year after year with tables of guests to enjoy the event. We couldn’t continue without their support and are truly grateful.”
