A SHOPPER has died after becoming ill while in a Blackburn shopping centre.

The 73-year-old woman collapsed at around 4.15pm on Tuesday in The Mall.

Eyewitnesses said security staff, off-duty medical staff and later paramedics used CPR while attempting to revive the woman for several minutes.

She was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital by ambulance but died later.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Loraine Jones, general manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “I can confirm that an incident occurred at the Mall following which an ambulance was called to the scene.

“We have since been informed that the woman involved has passed away. We would like to offer our sincere condolencesto her family and friends at this difficult time.”
