FESTIVALS and family fun days are just some of the highlights of the activities available for residents in East Lancashire this weekend.

On Saturday, Nelson’s annual Food and Drink festival will be taking place from 10am until 4pm and includes events in Nelson town centre and Pendle Rise Shopping Centre.

Organiser Zahida Shamim said: “This event brings out everyone, there is something for the whole community. If you want to come for a fun day out with the family, it’s fantastic.

“Last year we had 8,000 people attend and this year we’re expecting even more.”

Celebrity chef Richard Fox will also be returning to the festival to run two cookery demonstrations.

In Blackburn this weekend Eid in the Park is set to return to Corporation Park with more than 2,000 people anticipated to attend across Saturday and Sunday.

It is being held to mark Eid Sallah and follows on from a similar event in Witton Park to celebrate the Eid Al-Fitr Festival.

Activities are being held each day from 11am until 6pm and the free-to-enter event is open to all regardless of race or faith, and will include a fun fair, donkey rides and refreshment stalls..

Ramsbottom Festival will also be taking place from Friday until Sunday featuring music each day, and will headlined by a performance from Fun Lovin’ Criminals on Sunday night.

Day tickets are still available for the event at Ramsbottom Cricket Club from the festivals website, and a variety of family friendly workshops and arts display will also be on offer each day.

For the adults, Burnley Gin festival will be taking place on Saturday from 12.30pm until 11pm.

At Lower Darwen Primary School on Saturday a family fun day will be taking place in aid of Maddi’s Butterflies, featuring a bouncy castle, stalls and refreshments.

Event organiser Samantha Allan: “It’s been a success before and we hope it can continue again.

“People can come along and have some fun and at the same time raise money for those children who are less fortunate.”

The charity was set up in memory of Madison Allen, a young girl who passed away from neuroblastoma age seven in 2011.

On Sunday Burnley and Pendle 5k Fundrun for Cancer Research UK will be taking place in Townley Park from 11am.

Sunday also marks the last night of the proms at Rakefoot Methodist Church in Crawshawbooth, which will be taking place from 2pm until 4pm.
