A HUMAN trafficking investigation has been launched in Burnley after a woman was allegedly kidnapped and kept against her will.


Police have launched a probe after officers were approached after a car accident by a 29-year-old woman, who alleged she had been trafficked into the country.

Two people were arrested and have now been charged, officers said.

Milan Orsos, 23, of Wynotham Street, Burnley, was charged with rape, kidnap and false imprisonment and his partner Agnes Hantosi, 25, of the same address, was charged with kidnap and false imprisonment.

The Hungarian couple appeared at Blackburn Magistrates Court on Monday.
Magistrates heard the victim was allegedly ‘trafficked’ into the UK on the promise of work and then forced to work as a prostitute.

The alleged victim managed to raise the alarm after police attended a road traffic collision in Burnley where she claimed she was being held, the court was told.

Orsos and Hantosi, were sent in custody to Burnley Crown Court where they will appear on October 6.


Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said police were still investigating human trafficking and other offences.


Cllr Sue Graham, who represents the area on Burnley Council including Wynotham Street, said: “Queensgate is a diverse ward but it is also a peaceful ward so I’m quite shocked to hear that something like this could have been happening.”


Nearby residents on the street where the accident occurred said police in this street was not an uncommon occurrence.


One neighbour said: “The officer who came here the other night told me they’d been called here 53 times this year.


“It’s terrible, something has been happening every day on this road. There’s a lot of elderly people living around this area and it’s not nice for them at all, it’s very disruptive.”


A Lancashire police spokesman said: “Two people have been charged as part of an investigation into alleged human trafficking.


“On Friday, September 2nd police officers were approached outside an address in Burnley by a 29 year old woman who alleged she had been trafficked into the country.


“Two people were arrested and have now been charged.


“Milan Orsos, 23, of Wynotham Street, Burnley, is charged with rape, kidnap and false imprisonment and Agnes Hantosi, 25, of the same address, is charged with kidnap and false imprisonment.


“They appeared at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on Monday and have been remanded to appear at Burnley Crown Court at a later date.”
