Officers said two male passengers were detained at the scene. They have since been released without charged.

Nobody was injured in the incident but it is believed the couple, who live in the house with a young child, were in the front room when the incident happened.

Neighbour David Evans, 36, said: “Me and my girlfriend heard a bang and the room shook a little.

“I ran out to the front and there was a car in next door.

“It’s not what you expect to see on a Sunday teatime.

“They were quite lucky because the neighbour’s little girl was playing in the front room.

“It was weird because when I came out the police were already there, so I assume they must have been following them over something.

“She was a bit shocked next door because she is pregnant.”

Another resident said: “I heard the bump but I was upstairs.

“I looked out of the window and I saw a lad running away.

“There was a couple who were walking their dog who almost got run over.
