TWO men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of affray after a fight outside a primary school.

The incident happened outside St Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary School in Stacksteads yesterday.

Two men, age 21 and 29, have been arrested on suspicion of affray, whilst a 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of a class B drug and driving whilst unfit through drink.

All three are currently being quizzed by officers.

A police spokesman said: "We received reports of an alleged assault taking place which reportedly occurred in front of primary school children leaving a nearby school. Suspects were seen leaving the scene in a car.

"Later in the evening, the car in question was spotted in Rochdale Road, Bacup, with suspected offenders inside. "The car proceeded at speed through Bacup town centre and stopped in the petrol station forecourt in Market Street. The suspects ran off from officers but were quickly detained.

"We fully appreciate the incident will have been upsetting for children and parents. There was a police presence in the area providing reassurance to the public this afternoon."
